Andrade Pereira and Maria da Conceição Costa Pereira decided to invest in coffee growing in Carmo de Minas, Brazil, in the early 1970s. They bought 90 acres of land and started planting their first seedlings. While those trees grew tall, the couple's two daughters were born: Maria Valéria and Maria Rogéria.
The sisters began helping their father run the farm from a very early age. When they got married, their husbands joined them in their shared mission. After their father's death, the sisters decided not to split the farm but to strengthen their partnership. They renamed the farm from Serrado to Irmãs Pereira (Pereira Sisters, in English) to embody the spirit of sisterhood.
