ROK grinder is solidly engineered to last decades and minimise energy. The burrs are case-hardened to keep their edge, and if after a year or two’s heavy use you want to replace them, it’s a simple job to fit new ones.
Its tricky to score. Given most hand grinders are like fiddly pepper grinders I could give this 5 stars, and the results are fine - it grinds coffee as well as anything with similar burrs. But, the ergonomics could be refined perhaps with the base slightly deeper to make it more stable. The static you may have read about is a pain - you end up with coffee grounds all over the place. To take this product to the next level I would incorporate a dosing funnel and a portafilter cradle. And the thing that would really make me score it lower than this is the little threaded bar that screws into the main shaft to chase the beans into the burr. The first time I used the grinder I found it was sticking, so I would gently reverse and start again. After a while, when the beans worked there way through I noticed something odd amongst the few remaining beans - this component had fallen out and was in the grinder. So either stick it in with Locktight or throw the damn thing away (as I did). Once a week you may have to tap the odd stuck bean with your finger but its no big deal.
