Kenya Amurangi Nyambene SL‑28 (AA) – Bright, Balanced, and Bursting with Character

If you’re looking for a coffee that captures the essence of Kenyan highlands and small‑scale craftsmanship, the Kenya Amurangi Nyambene SL‑28 AA is one to watch. Grown by Ameru family farmers on the volcanic slopes near Nyambene Hills in the Meru/Embu region — sitting between 1,500 and 2,000 meters above sea level — this coffee thrives in red, organic-rich volcanic soils and generous rainfall averaging around 1,290 mm annuall
Origin & Terroir

Nestled on the eastern foothills of Mount Kenya, Nyambene enjoys ideal growing conditions: high altitude, consistent bimodal rainfall, and fertile volcanic soil. Smallholder farms dot the landscape, many under a hectare, where varieties like SL‑28 and SL‑34 flourish. These iconic SL cultivars were developed by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in the 1930s to combine disease resistance with extraordinary cup quality

Processing – Triple Washed, AA Grade

This coffee is fully washed: cherries are pulped, then soaked and washed in long channels with manual agitation to strip away mucilage. After that, beans are sun-dried on raised beds, carefully turned every 24 hours under shade. This ensures even drying and keeps temperatures moderate while airflow prevents spoilage. The moisture level is reduced to about 11%, which is ideal for clarity and consistency
The “AA” grade label points to bean size and density. AA beans are typically the large, dense beans (screen size 17/18), and are associated with the cleanest and sweetest flavours in Kenyan coffee.

Why Society Coffee Roasters Loves it

Kenya Amurangi Nyambene SL‑28 AA is ideal for the curious coffee lover searching for clarity, fruit complexity, and regional authenticity. Every cup connects you to volcanic highlands, smallholder care, and a classic Kenyan coffee tradition. It's bold, refined, and utterly drinkable — just how Society Coffee Roasters likes it.
